Randwick Art Society – Notice to Members & Visitors
Taking into account the advice of Government regarding Covid19 and group meetings, we need to be mindful of the welfare and health of our members and visitors. After much thought and consideration the RAS committee has decided to suspend all RAS meetings and activities scheduled to be held at the Randwick Literary Institute (RLI) until further notice, including our Monday Art Studio, Demonstrations and Workshops, as well as our Members’ Gallery display at the RLI. We have also reluctantly decided to cancel our Annual Exhibition in May 2020. Refunds will be made to those members who have already forwarded their entry. These are unprecedented times and we cannot know just how long these disruptions will last, but the committee will keep you informed of any changes. As artists we are so lucky to be able to follow our creative interests in our homes. We can use this time to complete work for future exhibitions, try some new techniques, paint/draw self portraits – human and pets in your house. I wish good health for you and your families and we look forward to a time where we can meet and share our love of art.

RAS ‘Emergence‘ Art Exhibition
Bowen Library, Maroubra
Randwick Art Society Inc has been offered an art exhibition at the Lionel Bowen Library at Maroubra.
As there is currently social distancing in place, we will be following all the regulations required to ensure a safe environment up to and during the exhibition.
This means that members of the public can currently visit Maroubra Library but will need to give their name and address when visiting.
We need to be aware of any changes to the regulations for Covid-19 and need to follow the Library and Council requirements.
This is the first exhibition that Maroubra Library is holding since lockdown, so we are delighted to be able to show the talents of members of our Society.
As there is limited space available at the Library, we need to limit the number of artworks that can be shown. We therefore have to limit the number of paintings for each financial member to (1). Should you not be financial, you are welcome to renew your membership prior to entering this exhibition.
Sketch-A-Day artwork on Television Screen in Library
Many members have been contributing to the Sketch-A-Day pages on our website during the lockdown. The Committee would like to showcase the wonderful work that has been sent in, and we have the opportunity to use the television screen in the Library wall where we can show all the Sketch-A-Day ”Assorted” and “Out and About” artwork. We intend to show the work on a continuous powerpoint show. If anyone who has entered their work on the website and does not wish their work to be displayed, please advise us.
4 August 2020 Exhibition opens. Anyone can visit Library – need to sign in.
20 September 2020 Exhibition closes.
22 – 25 September Pickup artwork from 164 Rainbow Street, Randwick between 9.00am and 12 noon.

RAS Instagram Account Established
RAS has established an Instagram account specifically for use by the Society. Follow us @randwickartsocietyinc
Most members will know that Instagram is another social media platform. It targets visual material and imagery. Users can “tag” their posted image using #hashtags to reference different topics plus accounts using the @ symbol.
Some of our members actively use Instagram and it forms part of their ‘promotion’ for their own artworks and exhibitions. Members have also tagged RAS using the hashtag #randwickartsociety. This activity is encouraged by RAS Committee, as it brings our Society to the attention of a wider audience.

Design a New RAS Logo !
Stuck at home and not sure what to do with yourself ?
Why not put your energy and time into designing a new RAS Logo? RAS Committee has decided it’s time.
Here are some key points about what we currently use:
· We have a primary logo which was developed when RAS commenced. This is essentially a blue and white logo based on the letter ‘R’ which is shaped like a wave. The words Randwick Art Society Inc are placed around the outside;
· We have a second logo that is often used on marketing material and the Newsletter. It comprises the letters ‘RAS’ in white caps on a green or blue background. Sometimes it is used together with our primary logo.
Here are some key points about what we now need and how to go about it:
· We are after one logo that we can use in all circumstances;
· It should include/incorporate the words ‘Randwick Art Society Inc’.
· It will work best for us if it is reasonably bold and graphically strong. That’s because it will be used on our web page, flyers, Newsletters, banners, etc; and needs to be legible and identifiable in a range of sizes;
· It could be based on imagery that reflects what we do. But don’t forget, our Society comprises members who paint, draw, take photos, sew, undertake craft, etc; so a logo that just depicts one of those activities won’t best represent us;
· It could be based on a creative use of the letters ‘RAS’;
· It could seek to reflect our Randwick/coastal location (much like the current primary logo);
· Look around at all sorts of other logos you can see especially on the web. Look at which ones work well, and which ones don’t. Think about why;
This is the process:
· The Competition is only open to members;
· Each member can prepare and submit no more than 2 logos;
· Scans or photos of your logo designs should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org by Sunday 31 May 2020. If email is difficult, you can send to P O Box 1062 Randwick 2031, but you should post earlier to allow time for slower postal delivery;
· The RAS Committee will prepare a short list of 3 potential logos. These will then be circulated so that all RAS members can vote on their preferred logo. The Committee reserves the right to reject any logo;
· The preferred logo will be utilised on all RAS material, as soon as practicable after the completion of the process;
· The reward for the member who designs the preferred logo will be the satisfaction of seeing their design used in an ongoing manner by the Society.
We look forward to seeing some interesting designs.

From the Heart to the Coast describes the distinctly Australian natural landscapes of the Red Centre,contrasting with the Eastern Sydney coastline and its white sandstone cliffs and blue seas. Both environments feature rocky landscapes, water and the true blue Australian sky, but they are very different. Painting these contrasting landscapes, Heidi Hereth draws inspiration from the colour and shapes of the ancient rocks of the Red Centre and the dramatic cliffs and ocean of the Eastern Sydney coast. She finds the Australian landscape deeply spiritual and filled with light and colour. It is this feeling that is the heart of this exhibition
